Small, enjoyable bouts of movement each week can make a meaningful difference
In recent research from the Mexico City Prospective Study, involving around 10,000 participants over two decades, scientists found that even small amounts of exercise can significantly lower the risk of mild dementia.
Notably, "weekend warriors" who exercised once or twice a week were 25% less likely to develop mild dementia, compared to a 11% reduction for those who exercised more frequently. The study controlled for various lifestyle factors and suggested that up to 13% of mild dementia cases could be prevented through moderate weekly activity.
Exercise doesn’t need to be intense or daily to benefit mental health: even small, enjoyable bouts of movement each week can make a meaningful difference.
